Career Encounters is an award winning* series of TV documentaries that explore some of today’s most challenging and rewarding career fields. Under the guidance of our expert sponsors, CE producers travel to the workplaces of America to find real people who can explain what they do, how they got where they are, and why they find their work so rewarding. Our programs are sponsored by a wide range of professional and industry associations and universities. In many cases additional underwriting is provided by corporations or foundations.
Each program in the series emphasizes diversity, both in the variety of occupations spotlighted and the men and women featured. Viewers may be surprised to find that even in today’s tightening job market, several occupations anticipate critical shortages. Other occupations are undergoing rapid shifts that are creating new, little-known career opportunities. The series also goes a long way toward dispelling a few of the myths, misconceptions and negative stereotypes which persist about some career fields.
Every program in the Career Encounters Series has been aired on educational television. We seek the widest possible mix of networks including Public TV, Knowledge TV, and NETA (National Educational Telecommunications Association). The series is also available on videocassette through the sponsoring organizations and Films for the Humanities and Sciences.
